The Navigating Grief Series is intended to help parents develop a deeper understanding of their grief. It is for parents within the first year following a loss. This series is offered on an as-needed basis and is scheduled once we have enough interested parents. Please email griefseries@sharingparents.org with any questions.

Typically, our Navigating Grief Series runs for four consecutive weeks on Sunday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and therefore offers some consistency and strong connections made with the other parents. We cover different topics each week and have found it to be really powerful to be present with others who have gone through similar losses.

Week One:

  • Understanding the Complexity of Your Loss
  • Navigating the Grief Wheel
  • Understanding the Six Needs of Mourning
  • Common Myths About the Death of Your Child
  • Supporting Yourself Through Your Grief

Week Two:

  • Exploring Expectations
  • Thing to Remember About Non-grievers
  • Responding to Insensitive Remarks and Difficult Questions
  • Changing Relationships
  • Sharing Your Pain in a Digital World
  • Do’s and Dont’s For Supporting the Grieving

Week Three:

  • Uniqueness of Our Grief
  • Couples Worksheet
  • Breakout Session
  • Accepting Your Differences
  • Communication

Week Four:

  • Using Art in Place of Words
  • Honoring Your Baby

  • Sharing Mementos

What Our Parents Say

The most helpful part of Navigating Grief was sharing our story with people who understood the magnitude of the loss we suffered. This series reinforces that you are not alone in your grief and that there are things you can do to help yourself through this journey.

I felt so alone before coming to these meetings. The grief series helped me to examine my feelings and know that I am not alone.

This series helped spawn conversations that were scary to have between even my wife and I. We are grieving different, but better as a team.

Being able to share my journey with a group of people who know exactly how I feel has been the most helpful. I am truly grateful for this series, and will continue to be a part of this amazing group of people.

The facilitators created a safe and vulnerable space to share and affirm every stage of our journey. It is a safe place to cry. Your babies are honored and remembered. No matter how much time has passed, love and pain don’t have a timeline.
